Job Description:
THE POSITION
The Operations Foreman is a supervisory position responsible for assigning, directing and organizing the safe operation, maintenance and repair activities of the District’s water system, pumping, storage and disinfection facilities and serves as a D-2, T-3 operator as defined by California Department of Public Health (CDPH). This position coordinates assigned activities with groups and outside agencies and provides highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the General Manager.

ABOUT SANTA YNEZ RIVER WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT, IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT NO.1
The District was formed in 1959 under the Water Conservation Law of 1931, for the purposes of furnishing water within the Water District. Located in the central portion of Santa Barbara County, the District serves the communities of Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, Ballard, and the City of Solvang. With a population of approximately 6,737, (excluding the City of Solvang), the District currently provides water directly to 2,553 municipal and industrial customers and approximately 118 agricultural customers.

COMPENSATION:
Annual Salary: $74,506 (plus benefits package)

ADDITIONAL POSITION CHARACTERISTICS
This is an advanced-level lead position responsible for the production and treatment of the District’s water supplies and overseeing the operations of the transmission, storage and distribution facilities. This position is also responsible for the construction and repair of the water distribution system, and recommends improvements to ensure efficient use of resources related to the system.

EDUCATION: Minimum seven (7) years of increasingly responsible water system operation, treatment, and distribution experience, including five (5) years of experience providing lead direction on an ongoing basis.
In addition:

  • Required Minimum of High School graduate or equivalent GED.
  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with college level course work in water treatment, water quality, engineering or a related field. Directly related experience may be substituted for the college requirement on the basis of one and one-half years of experience for one year of education to a maximum of four years.
  • Possession of valid D-2 and T-2 Operator certifications issued by the State of CA Department of Public Health are required at the time of appointment; the incumbent must obtain a T-3 certification within 1 year of hire.
