Position Summary:

The office engineer is responsible for seeing that the project submittals and project technical items are prepared in accordance with the contract plans and specifications. He/she reports to the Senior Construction Manager, Construction Manager or Project Manager and must be aware of project technical activities and issues of the project.

Looking for candidates with experience in the following project categories:

  • Transportation (Roads & Bridges)
  • Water/Wastewater


Position Responsibilities:

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Daily personal interactions with clients, designers, owners, contractors, inspectors, authorities having jurisdiction to resolve project matters.
  • Review project submittals and RFIs for technical compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Preparation and management of Memos to Designer and their subsequent Clarification Letters.
  • Review schedule changes and impacts.
  • Review progress payment applications from contractor.
  • Post RFIs, Clarification Letters and other changes to the plans.
  • Act as backup to other office personnel.
  • Prepare and edit of various project documents and reports as delegated by the Construction Manager.
  • Manage all project documentation according to the Harris & Associates’ CM Procedures Manual.


Qualifications:

Must be able to work independently with limited supervision. Possess the knowledge and ability to work with Harris & Associates’ reference documents in conjunction with project plans and specifications. Work in concert with corporate staff and adhere to Harris & Associates’ core values. Must be able to utilize independent judgment and initiative to achieve project objectives and work on a construction site with limited amenities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Be familiar with materials, means, methods, tools and contractual obligations involved in the construction or repair of various structures, highways and civil infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of all applicable building codes and technical requirements of construction.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to timely communicate project issues to the various project participants.
  • Function as a member of a team that is dedicated to the successful completion of the project.
  • Ability to take the initiative to resolve conflicts that arise during the project in a timely manner.
  • Manage one’s own time and the time of others along with the ability to multi-task and change priorities quickly.

Requirements:

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities such as:

  • Minimum 4 years of construction experience.
    • Experience in Water/Wastewater and/or Road/Bridge Transportation projects is preferred.
    • Local (Washington State) experience is preferred for transportation project candidates.
  • College degree in engineering, construction management or architecture.
  • Certifications such as CMIT or EIT highly desirable.
  • Valid Washington Driver’s License.
