About the Position: The Water Resources Project Engineer II position plays a key role in Olympia’s integrated water management programs. The employee will lead day-to-day and long-range wastewater engineering and planning work efforts as well as participate in the storm and surface water management program. Primary responsibilities will include the development of approaches for providing wastewater service to Olympia and its urban growth area, trouble-shooting infrastructure problems, interpretation and application of policies and regulations, and coordination of City interests with other entities.
The ideal candidate will have:
• Municipal experience with wastewater infrastructure problem solving, design and construction.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• A Professional Engineer license.
• The ability to interact with other engineering and legal staff and succeed at other senior-staff level roles.
Primary Responsibilities of the Position:
• Act as the City’s primary contact and liaison regarding wastewater management.
• Research complex engineering issues, investigate options, conduct feasibility studies, scope public projects, evaluate costs and funding, and interact with engineering design and construction teams.
• Trouble-shoot day-to-day wastewater problems and advise Operations and Maintenance staff on feasible field solutions.
• Review development plans and implement wastewater requirements.
• Complete and review detailed hydrologic and hydraulic analyzes.
• Present recommendations to the City Council, community groups or other interested persons.
• Resolve citizen and City council complaints.
• Use various computer programs for data analysis, project management, modeling, word processing and presentations.
Education and Experience: The position requires graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in a field of engineering or closely related technical field. At least three years of progressively responsible experience is preferred. Experience in related engineering work may be substituted for the college degree with one-year experience being equal to one year of college education. Licensing as a Professional Engineer is highly advantageous and may be required.
