Chief Engineer and Director

The Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District is an independent regional entity providing wastewater treatment and conveyance services to 340,000 people in the Wisconsin capital city area.  It serves 44 municipalities and conveys and treats 41 MGD.

The Chief Engineer and Director is responsible for managing and representing the District.  He/she is appointed by the MMSD Commission.  The District employs a staff of 87 employees, has an annual operating budget of $23 million and invests about $10 million annually through its capital budget.

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, be a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin, or have the ability to achieve certification within one year, and have ten or more years of senior-level experience in wastewater treatment operations.  Any master’s degree is beneficial and may be substituted for two years of experience.  Significant experience in working successfully with external community leaders, budgeting and personnel management is required.  A participatory management style, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and strong problem-solving abilities are required.  Salary range  is $120,000 to $135,000.
