This is a professional engineering position responsible for providing engineering design and technical support for public utility improvement projects in the Water Resources Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
The incumbent prepares and reviews engineering plans, specifications, reports and calculations and is responsible for managing projects from planning to completion. This position reports to the Water Resources Engineering Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering as related to municipal water and wastewater systems. Must possess knowledge in the design of potable water wellfields, distribution systems, sanitary sewer collection systems, reuse systems, treatment plants and subdivision site utility plans. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to use a computer and associated software for engineering and analysis such as WaterCAD/WaterGEMS, ArcGIS, ADICPR, xpswmmAutoCAD, database management, word processing, and spreadsheet. Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate department project and activities. Ability to perform technical computations, analyze data, and direct the preparation of plans based on findings. Ability to maintain and prepare records and reports. Ability train support staff and communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with all Divisions within Water Resources and other City employees, agencies and the general public.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering plus three to five years of engineering experience with water and sewer utilities. Must be a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Florida or be able to obtain within six months of employment.
Possession of a valid Florida Operator's driver's license.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment necessary for the described duties such as a computer, telephone, etc. Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
During occasions of local emergencies this position may be required to report to perform emergency tasks, which may result in extended work hours as well as extended periods of time away from family members. The Incident Commander and the employee's department Head will make the determination as to who will be required to work.
