JOB DEFINITION:  Under supervision of the Water System Supervisor, performs a variety of semi-skilled or skilled tasks in the routine operation, inspection, repair and maintenance of the Company’s distribution and treatment system and related facilities.

Water System Operator I shall perform duties included but not limited to:

  • Standard and higher-level service and main leak repairs.
  • Valve Exercising and Maintenance.
  • Booster Pump Controls.
  • SCADA Monitoring and Production/Demand Analysis.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records on equipment and treatment facilities.
  • Meter Reading
  • Meter Change-outs
  • Daily Rounds
  • Daily Grab Samples, valve exercising and other assignments as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED:  Water System Operator I is in the mid-level class in the Water Operator series, candidates should be skilled in the operations of water distribution maintenance, treatment plant instrumentation and repairs. Knowledge of curb stop replacements, water service line installs/repairs. Treatment plant functions, computer technology and understanding of water production reporting and analysis, a must.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the Water System Operator duties.  Minimum requirements would be: High school graduation or tested equivalent and a minimum of (3) years of experience working in water distribution and treatment.  Must have a current SWRCB, Distribution II certification (D2) and Treatment II (T2) and the ability to obtain a Treatment III (T3) and Distribution (D3) within 18 months.

Candidates must live within 25 miles from the 91001 zip code.

Ability to perform manual labor involving frequent bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, digging and carrying of weights ranging from 50 - 100 lbs. with some assistance; perform the duties assigned while wearing respiratory protection equipment.  Knowledge of hiking in mountain terrain to inspect or repair canyon pipelines. You may be required to cover on-call duties, after hours or weekends.

See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to reach computer screens and printed documents and to operate assigned equipment.
Special Requirements:

  • Will be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays or other non-scheduled hours as required. 
  • Must meet CAL-OSHA respiratory facemask requirements. 
  • Must be willing to respond to emergency situations in off hours as required.
  • Must have valid CA drivers license with good standing motor vehicle report.
