Wastewater Treatment Process Operator

As part of the Operations-Waste Water division, the Wastewater Treatment Process Operator is responsible for participating in the operation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater treatment facilities.

The WWT Process Operator monitors and maintains wastewater treatment plant equipment, performs preventive maintenance and repairs, checks equipment and monitors processes, monitors and operates valve by starting and stopping pumps to adjust flow and operates and maintains boilers. Additionally, the Process Operator assists with the transfer of sludge from digesters, assists with the pumping of raw sludge to digester, monitors SCADA system for pump station and plant equipment alarms, collects wastewater samples, conducts lab tests and analysis, changes chlorine cylinders and changes pH, flow, and temperature charts. The Process Operator will also perform monthly safety inspections, create Safety logs and paperwork as required for OSHA compliance, enter data and use the computer program Operator 10 to generate reports and graphical output and performs assigned functions as an Essential Employee Personnel (EEP) member.

The position requires a Grade I NC WWT Operator certification, High School Diploma or equivalent, one (1) year of work experience and a valid State of North Carolina driver's license. Completion of HAZWOPER training is preferred.

This work requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, is typically performed in an office, a wastewater treatment plant, and outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather.

The position is a pay grade 13 with a starting salary of $35,430.

Hiring salary will be determined based on qualifications and internal equity.
