Opportunity: The Wastewater Treatment Supervisor is responsible for leading the team of utility professionals who operate and maintain two wastewater treatment facilities in the City of Maricopa. The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking, data driven, solutions-oriented leader that leverages new and innovative approaches and best practices to ensure safe, secure, reliable, and resilient utility services.

 

DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB

Manage wastewater treatment facilities in regulatory compliance by operating and maintaining hi-tech wastewater systems daily, while integrating new technology including automated components, processes, and controls.  Conduct routine data trending, analysis, and reporting.  Develop and execute action plans based on findings.  Troubleshoot complicated biological, chemical, mechanical, electrical, and controls systems problems.  Assist engineers in designing solutions and standards.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the operator of direct responsible charge for two water reclamation facilities.
  • Provides leadership, management, and direction for all wastewater treatment utility operators in assigned region.
  • Ensures the proper operation and maintenance of assigned water reclamation facilities including pumps, tanks, clarifiers, digesters, filters, UV disinfection, chlorinators, extended aeration and activated sludge processers and other related equipment.
  • Determines plant operation methods and procedures through the interpretation and evaluation of laboratory analyses of treated wastewater.
  • Develop and continuously update operational SOPs and readiness plans.
  • Develop and monitor operations budgets.
  • Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve operations by streamlining work processes, decreasing turnaround times, and working cooperatively and jointly to provide efficiency and excellence in the use of resources.
  • Delivers outstanding customer service. Establishes and maintains open communication with all internal and external customers; to include co-workers, contractors, residents, and other utility departments.
  • Clean and maintain equipment, facilities and grounds to ensure facilities are in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Conducts all company work related efforts and activities within the rules, regulations, and responsibilities of the most current company safety policy and OHSA regulations.
  • Conducts daily inspections of reclamation facilities; process sampling, logs daily records; interprets readings from meters, gauges, charts, and instruments, and adjusts; accordingly, and detects mechanical or process deficiencies.
  • Create, dispatch, and track service or work orders in coordination with maintenance team.
  • Log all operational data and produce frequent reports.
  • Class B CDL or higher preferred.

 

Minimum Requirements

Education/Knowledge: Work requires knowledge necessary to understand intermediate operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to associates degree or equivalency. State of Arizona Grade 4 wastewater treatment certifications required. 

 

Writing: Work requires the ability to write work orders, memos, letters, reports and keep accurate daily records at treatment facilities.

 

Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related field.

 

Time Management: Ability to complete repairs and tasks in a timely fashion.

 

Technical Skills: Work requires the use of advanced technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Moderate analysis and independent thinking is utilized. Work requires understanding and knowledge of using SCADA.

 

Location: Primary location will be the Global Water Center located in the City of Maricopa.

 

Communication:  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including drafting technical reports and memos and public speaking and presentations.

 

Social Skills:  Must act in a respectful, knowledgeable, and professional manner. Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of complex information; adjusting actions in relation to others’ actions; trying to reconcile differences; actively looking for ways to help people and Global Water be successful. Will interact with employees at all levels and represent Global Water externally.

 

Physical Demands:  Must be able to perform the following on a regular basis:  Sitting for extended periods; prolonged periods of time with repetitive motions of hands and fingers; close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to thirty pounds. Work is performed in an office and outdoors where the employee may be exposed to noise from construction sites, heavy equipment and inclement weather.
