This position is located in the Water Quality Division, Monitoring and Assessment Branch, Department of Energy and Environment. The incumbent serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist and is a member of an interdisciplinary and interagency scientific team providing technical expertise for surface water quality control in the District of Columbia. The incumbent collects and performs chemical analyses on river water, wastewater, river sediment and biological samples and identifies species of phytoplankton, invertebrate, crustacean, shellfish, waterfowl and other organisms in the field and in the laboratory.
Salary: $66,542.00 - $85,784.00
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to: conducts quality assurance procedures as part of all monitoring related activities; reviews water quality monitoring data and enters it into electronic databases; retrieves data as well as statistical and graphical representations of the data from the database systems; and interprets the data, graphs, and statistics for reports; prepares monitoring program reports, monitoring and quality assurance manuals, and sections of reports for other elements of the Division; reviews and comments on reports prepared by other local, state, and federal agencies; conducts field investigation and special water pollution control projects in conjunction with other elements of the Division.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION
Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Work is primarily performed in a normal office setting.

This position is a 13 month term appointment with a not-to-exceed (NTE) date.
