Under general direction, the Environmental Services Specialist (ESS) performs duties largely within two disciplines: Water Resources or Environmental Compliance. ESS-Water Resources performs day-to-day recycled water or water conservation administration, including: landscape irrigation surveys, recycled water program related tasks (cross-connection testing/site inspections, training, and program tracking), as well as customer service and outreach. ESS-Environmental Compliance performs technical tasks in support of environmental compliance in regards to National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) compliance, permit applications, hazardous materials management, environmental analyses and assessments, fats, oils, and grease (FOG) program inspections, clean water program outreach, and other related work. Cross-training and work between disciplines is expected.
A typical qualifying background would be a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in physical science, engineering, environmental science, biology, or a related field, or an Associate of Arts degree plus five years of work experience in a position and field with direct relevance to duties described herein. Public sector experience and certification and/or training in landscape irrigation auditing, storm water inspections, recycled water site inspections, and/or FOG inspections are highly desirable.
Backflow tester certification and subsequent Cross- Connection Specialist certification are highly desirable or must be obtained within two years of hire.
Salary: $84,781 to $103,064 Annually
