SALARY: $26,624 - $39,936

This is a skilled manual labor position that works with the Finance Department and utility billing personnel by reading water meters and accurately recording the water usage of the private and commercial customers of the Dade City Water System. The position is also responsible for the general maintenance and testing of the water meters and new water meter installations. Scheduled work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Employee is subject to emergency on call rotation. Overtime may be required.

The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Reads and records the readings of water meters.

Maintains water meter box installations; checks for stem leaks, curb stop leaks, hand valve leaks, broken boxes and lids, and broken water glasses and repairs or replaces defective meters.

 

Installs, calibrates, and repairs volumetric water meters; tests accuracy of meters.

 

Works with other water meter reading/service personnel.

 

Turns water service off for non-payment and turns water on for re-connections or new service.

 

 

Purchases parts and maintains inventory; performs other duties as required.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

 

Ability to plan, layout, and perform assigned work.

 

 

Ability to work from work orders, equipment maintenance catalog cuts, diagrams.

 

 

Knowledge of City and its geography, street locations and meter locations.

 

 

Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and practices of water meter repair, testing, and installation. 

 

 

Skill in the use of water meter testing and calibration equipment and other specialized tools.

 

 

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions

 

 

Ability to handle customer complaints tactfully and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

 

High school education or equivalent with combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform all assigned tasks.    Possession of a valid Florida  driver's license.
