About The PositionThis is a 3-4 month summer internship position that provides professional level staff assistance in the areas of research and analysis, procedural studies and technical planning for a variety of general administrative or specialized technical projects in support of the objectives in the Water Resources Engineering Department. The intern will work approximately 20 - 29 hours per week, three to five days per week (Monday through Friday). These hours are during the day. This is a stand-alone position classification and has no supervisory responsibilities. Duties include the following:
- Assists Water Resource Engineers with development related design reviews and the water/sewer line extension program. This will require that City Code and City Design Standards be studied and applied.
- Analyze procedures, drafts studies, reports and/or manuals and report findings and propose solutions.
- Conduct field visits to sites to inspect capital assets, groundwater well data collection and operational observations, and water treatment process data collection and observations.
- Database entry, technical assessment of water and wastewater assets, and various field data collection.
- Other duties related to water treatment and distribution, wastewater, groundwater and wells, and database management, as necessary.
Please note: Due to this position being part-time, the classification is unclassified, meaning it is at-will and serves at the discretion of the City. These positions have limited benefits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
|
Education and Experience
- No experience required for this position.
- Must be currently enrolled or recently graduated within a year from an accredited college or university degree program in engineering, chemistry or related.
- Preferred: Computer proficient and demonstrated experience with Microsoft software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and experience with various databases and research methodologies.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
- Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
- Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/section assignment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
|
- Provides staff assistance to the Water Resources Engineering Department .
- Communicates with the general public, other City employees, management and public officials in order to research administrative or operational problem areas, conduct surveys and report recommendations and results.
- Analyzes procedures, drafts studies, reports and/or manuals to report findings and propose solutions to administrative problems, or makes recommendations for improvement.
- Designs and revises a variety of statistical and/or narrative forms for records and reports; completes them on an as-needed, monthly, quarterly, and/or yearly basis.
- Attends related training sessions, various meetings, citizens committees and citizen boards and commissions, as directed.
- Collects, assembles and analyzes data to assist in resolving procedural, operational and other work-related problems.
- Conducts various field visits as directed.

- Most work is performed in a City office environment.
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
