Job Description:



The Senior Benefits Accountant prepares various general ledger journal entries, performs complex financial analysis, prepares analysis and reconciliations relating to various benefit programs, and assists quarterly and annual SEC reporting. This position is located at Customer Support Services in San Jose, CA.




  • Performs various GL accounts analysis reconciliations relating to Pension, Healthcare, and VEBA account programs.


  • Prepares journal entries for the month-end, quarter-end, and annual close


  • Prepares supporting documents for the quarterly financial reporting package including income statements, balance sheets, and statement of cash flow


  • Prepares quarterly flux analysis for the auditors


  • Complies with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements by ensuring adherence to internal controls


  • Works with internal and external auditors


  • Works with (OCIO) Outsourced Chief Investment Officer


  • Performs other duties as assigned to fulfill business operational needs and objectives


  • Prepares management financial reports for the Employee Benefit Finance Committee (EBFC) that relates to the three plan assets Pension, Voluntary Employees' Beneficiary Association (VEBA), and Healthcare assets.


  • Verifies all OCIO Certified Statements and Plan Asset Valuation Reconciliation contents of the audit package are present and reflect the appropriate quarter end for the three plan assets.


  • Performs quarterly review and reconciliation of the OCIO managed plan assets, computes the Net Asset Values (fair market value) of the plan, and verifies that there are no new private equity, or similar investments, as part of the plan assets Census data


  • Confirms accuracy of Pension data including employee indicative data, employment status, pensionable hours, earnings, and service status


  • Reconciles assets held in publicly traded holdings along with any cash not invested at the close of the calendar quarter.


  • Ensures the review and reconciliations are captured in the quarterly work papers


  • Resolves general accounting pension queries, plan specific queries, and technical queries.


  • Updates pension and benefit processes and procedures where necessary, ensuring




  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, and/or equivalent relevant experience


  • CPA is desirable


  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting with three consecutive years in general ledger


  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications


  • Valid California Driver License


  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)


  • Advanced level of software knowledge and understanding


  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees and management


  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing


  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.


  • Detail-oriented and experienced in analyzing and improving processes.


  • Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.


  • Knowledge in PeopleSoft Application is desirable.

Salary Range: $96,500 - $179,200
