Job Description:


The Bay Area Electrical/Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for the supervision of the Electrical/Mechanical Technicians (EMTs), maintenance programs, Asset Management capital programs in the Bay Area California districts, coordinating technical field requirements with district needs, field maintenance capital and expense budgeting, and development of long- and short-term department goals. This position can be based in the San Jose, Bear Gulch, Bayshore, Dixon, Salinas, King City, Livermore, Los Altos, or Redwood Valley, CA facilities and reports to the Manager of Asset Management - Field Services.




  • Supervises staff including prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance reviews, and overseeing the development of staff


  • Partners with District Superintendents regarding EMT activities in districts


  • Provides oversight to maintenance tasks, emergencies, and construction-related projects


  • Partners with the Safety Department to develop and implement electrical safety training, policies, and procedures for EMTs to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Company requirements


  • Available for emergency response and hands-on EMT troubleshooting and repair during emergencies


  • Assigns and manages EMT daily work via Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), phone, and email


  • Assists with Treatment Plant maintenance planning


  • Partners with Engineering to recommend enhancement and improvement of existing service, programs, or projects


  • Travel to assigned districts to meet with employees and district supervision regularly


  • Develops and manages field maintenance capital and expense budgets


  • Develops and maintains short-and long-term strategic planning processes in assigned area of responsibility


  • Updates and maintains operating and electrical/mechanical policies and procedures


  • Performs other similar duties as assigned




  • High school diploma or GED


  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and management


  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adaptable to current situations


  • Ability to read and understand schematic drawings


  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices and techniques


  • Excellent organizational, time management and problem solving skills


  • Four years of increasingly responsible experience as an electrician, experience with hydraulic control valve operations and SCADA systems


  • Completion of a four-or five-year electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent experience


  • Knowledge of water treatment and distribution systems desired


  • California Department of Public Health Water Treatment Operator Certification Grade 2


  • California Department of Public Health Water Distribution Operator Certification Grade 2


  • Knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E


  • Knowledge of major utility operations, general understanding of engineering principles, hydraulic control valves and SCADA systems


  • Knowledge of applicable field tools, equipment and materials utilized in the EMTs daily responsibilities


  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications


  • Valid California Driver License


Salary Range: $96,500 - $179,200
