Under limited supervision of the Huron Regional Water Authority, the employee in the position of Water Treatment Operator-In-Charge is responsible for ensuring high-quality potable water to its two customers; the Village of Port Austin and the City of Bad Axe.  The position is responsible for assisting the Huron Regional Water Authority long range planning, for budgeting, purchasing, and day-to-day operations.

Job Responsibilities

. Plans, controls, and monitors budget to ensure fiscal responsibility. Determines and orders material, supplies and equipment.  Reviews vendor quotes to find the most competitive bids.

.Responsible for oversight and authorization of all water plant operations, including system improvements, construction, maintenance, and repairs and preventative maintenance programs.

. Ensures that Huron Regional Water Authority is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including but not limited to the Safe Drinking Water Act, EPA regulations, and OSHA.

.Responsible for collection of data and filing all required reports with the EGLE.

. Responsible for staffing the plant.

, Attends monthly Huron Regional Water Authority Board meetings, providing required data, and recommendations for improvements and operational issues.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 Possession of a Michigan F-2 Certification, or the ability to convert an equivalent out-of-state certificate to a Michigan F-2, upon appointment.

.Five years of progressive management experience in management of a water treatment facility.

.Thorough knowledge of water treatment chemistry and processes, health standards and environmental laws, process equipment and laboratory processes.

. Experience in planning, organizing, directing and controlling budget and staff to accomplish specific technical demands and accountabilities.

. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

. Demonstrated knowledge of technology and specific software applications to accomplish tasks and work related problems.
