THE POSITION
This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing operational responsibilities including, but not limited to:

· Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in sewer maintenance and water distribution systems to meet operational needs;
· Train staff and oversee safe operation of equipment;
· Coordinate with contractors in providing contract services; solicit and collect bids for new equipment and contracted maintenance work;
· Prepare and maintain records concerning operations, programs, and activities;
· Provide assistance to the public and staff inquiries; and
· Performs related duties as assigned.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The Public Works Department is responsible for operating the City’s water and sewer utilities, maintaining safe streets, sidewalks, and transportation, preservation of the City’s eight parks and other green spaces, providing a variety of environmental services, and maintaining all public facilities. Monrovia Public Works strives to provide the highest level of service to residents and businesses. The department is organized into two sections: Administration and Operations and together are responsible for all planning, construction, and maintenance of the City’s public infrastructure to preserve and maintain natural resources and provide a premier environment to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors. The Public Works department is in the midst of an aggressive five-year CIP that provides direction and organization to ensure the City’s financial resources are focused on projects that are priority for community enhancements.


QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, abilities and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the qualifications would be:

AA/AS in water technology, construction or related field and four (4) years of increasingly responsible water and sewer system experience including some lead worker or supervisory experience. Experience working with diverse groups and ability to exercise cultural sensitivity and awareness is highly desirable.

 

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a valid Class B California Driver’s License with air brakes endorsement and a good driving record; American Red Cross certifications in CPR/First Aid and AED. Possession of a Grade III Water Distribution Certificate and Grade II Water Treatment Operator Certificate.
