Performs skilled and semi-skilled labor in the maintenance, operation, and repair of the City’s water distribution system; reads residential and commercial water meters and provides customer service; and maintains all vehicles and equipment used. 

The Ideal Candidate will possess:

  • some experience maintaining and repairing hydraulic control valves.
  • knowledge of operational characteristics of water pumps, electric motors and related tools and equipment.
  • the ability to learn conditions and situations that indicate pump and valve failures.
  • the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • sufficient physical ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting and walking.
  • the ability to work in inclement weather and respond to after-hours, standby, and emergency callouts as directed.
  • defining characteristics such as dependability, hardworking, and a positive attitude.

Minimum Qualifications: 
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 
Education: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. 
Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience repairing and maintaining water distribution systems and equipment. 
License or Certificate: Possession of, and ability to maintain, certification as Water Distribution Operator D2, and possession of, and ability to maintain, a valid Class A driver’s license.
