Provides efficient and effective water resource planning, education programs, permitting and regulatory reporting. In the course of managing these activities and programs, this position frequently represents the City of Avondale with regulatory agencies, elected officials, and organizations with which Avondale is affiliated or has an interest.
Provides leadership, general guidance and coordinates activities for the Water Quality & Compliance and Environmental and Public Programs (Groundwater Recharge and Wetlands) Sections. Assists with the development of strategic planning for the Public Works Department. Provides support and direction for specific projects to ensure projects remain on schedule. Determines system needs, answers questions, and solves problems regarding systems, equipment, employees, and operations.
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge of principles of biological and chemical processes as it relates to drinking water, industrial pretreatment, wastewater treatment, backflow prevention, distribution system cross connections, groundwater recharge and wetlands management.
Five (5) years of related experience in the water industry, specifically in the regulatory compliance or water resource areas.
Valid Arizona Operator’s Driver’s License at time of hire. Possession of an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Grade IV Certification in Water Treatment, Distribution or Wastewater Treatment is preferred.
Salary: $87,644 to $127,084 Annually
