Water Process Operator

As part of the Water Treatment division, the Water Process Operator is responsible for performing a variety of skilled technical duties and labor in the operation and maintenance of the water treatment facility. The Process Operator assists in monitoring water quality by routing inspections of plant facility equipment, collecting samples, performing routine laboratory tests, compiling readings from plant equipment, calculating flow rates and adjusting valves and feeder systems. The Process Operator also operates gates, pumps, motors, and generators in controlling treatment processes, assists in the optimization of facility chemical treatment process by changing pumps to adjust chemical levels and verifying changes, calibrates treatment monitoring instruments, and inspects buildings, grounds, and equipment for compliance with safety standards and safety requirements. Additionally, the Process Operator records equipment failures and problems, initiates work orders, and informs supervisors and co-workers of potential problems and hazards, receives bulk chemical deliveries and performs other related job duties as assigned.
The position requires a High School diploma or equivalent, six (6) months of relevant work experience and a valid State of North Carolina driver's license. Preference will be given to candidates with NCWOA “B” or “C” Surface certification, possession of physical chemical Grade “1” Wastewater, Well License, and Distribution/Cross Connection license or Associate’s or Bachelor’s degrees in related field.
This position works rotating, 12-hour shifts and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed in an office, a water treatment plant, and outdoors.
The position is a pay grade 13 with a starting salary of $35,784.
