We started our Storm Water Department about 6 months ago which has been exciting in opportunities and new developments and this position will continue to help our storm water programs grow. Lead, maintain, coordinate, and design engineering and technical aspects of the Herriman City Water, Secondary Water, and Storm Drainage systems. Serve as an engineering project leader and project manager, performing administrative and technical functions on large scope projects. Work requires the exercise of a high degree of independent judgement and discretion in the interpretation and execution of policies governing the engineering department and will often work with minimal supervision.

Ensures water and storm drainage improvements for development and city projects comply with city code, standards, and adopted water and storm drain master plans.
Ensures drainage system improvements for development and city projects comply with external requirements, including but not limited to Salt Lake County Flood Control requirements, Utah State requirements (e.g. Stream Alterations, Dam Safety, etc.), and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requirements.
Ensures water system improvements for development and city projects comply with external requirements, including but not limited to, Utah State requirements (e.g. Water Rights, Distribution and Regulation, Well Drilling, etc.).
Manages, maintains, and regularly updates, as necessary, the city Water Master Plan (WMP) and its respective Impact Fee Facilities Plan (IFFP).
Manages, maintains, and regularly updates, as necessary, the city Storm Drainage Master Plan (SDMP) and its respective Impact Fee Facilities Plan (IFFP).
Manages, maintains, and updates the city wide water, secondary water, and storm drain models as necessary.
Provides oversight for the storm water inspection department to ensure project compliance with the MS4 permit requirements with the State of Utah Department of Environmental Quality.
Performs programming, design, contractor procurement, construction, and completion of city water and city storm drainage projects in coordination with the Herriman City Public Works Department.
Ensures city water and city storm drain projects are completed within the approved budget amounts.
Manages municipal construction project contracts and bidding processes.
Recommends project funding for priority water and storm drain projects to City Engineer in coordination with the Public Works Department.
Serves as liaison with Federal, State, County, and local jurisdictions; represents the City as staff to various commissions and task forces.
Ensures various aspects of project management and scheduling. Adheres with established standards and consultant activities and complies with standards and contract specifications.
Prepares various reports, projections, and evaluations as required; provides input and recommendations to City Council and City leadership.
Attends required Planning Commission Meetings and provides reports as assigned by the City Engineer. May fill in for the City Engineer as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.



Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from accredited university (Master's Degree preferred).
Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Utah.


Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience with at least one (1) years of management experience in the practice of civil engineering, including experience in planning and managing difficult civil engineering projects.
Must have significant experience designing and managing water and storm drainage projects.


Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Utah.
Must be at least 18yrs old.
Requires a valid Utah Driver's License.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and driving record check


Ability to direct and supervise complex and politically sensitive engineering and architectural programs.
Capable of managing and leading a team of Herriman City staff and coordinate with multiple departments.
Professionally communicate in the English language by phone or in person in a one-to-one or group setting.
Produce written documents in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over engineering staff and engineering consultants.
Use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions.
Prepare and administer large and complex budgets.
Utilize computer and related work processing, spreadsheet, computer aided design (CAD) software, geographic information systems (GIS), and other applications as required.
Utilize computer modeling software systems specific to large water and storm drainage systems.
Analyze and interpret engineering plans and specifications in accordance with design requirements and applicable standards and regulations.
In City travel to various sites.


This is a primarily sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required.
Positions in the classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information.
Positions in the classification occasionally lift and carry reports and records that typically weigh less than 20 pounds.
May be required to leave the office and visit job sites within the City.
