Advance your career as an Associate Electrical Engineer with an industry-leading water and wastewater utility. Reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer, the Associate Electrical Engineer is the registered professional electrical engineer level on East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD’s) career ladder.

As appropriate to assignments, the Associate Electrical Engineer would be prepared to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

Project Planning and Management

Plan and develop project scope, schedule and budget for complex water and wastewater electrical engineering projects; prepare contract bid documents; coordinate the work of multi-disciplinary teams; direct, monitor, and control project activities and ensure compliance with scope, goals, schedules, and budgets.

Design

Power System Engineering – Research and develop electrical design criteria, project scope and cost, prepare drawings, including site and floor plans, equipment elevation and layout diagrams, single line and three line detailed control diagrams, grounding systems, lighting, interconnection diagrams, typical detailed diagrams, conduit and panelboard schedules, wire sizing, and specifications for systems and equipment including substations, power distribution systems, wastewater treatment plants, cogeneration plants, recycled water plants, pumping stations, and office facilities. Prepare and review electrical power system analysis including load calculations, transient motor starting, harmonics, short circuit, coordination study, protective relays, and arc flash. Academy and strong design experience with NEC, classification (hazardous locations) and non-classification locations, including overhead and underground power systems, switchgears, MCCs, transformers, reclosers, VFDs, ATS, UPS, and standby generators is highly desirable.

Construction Support and Start up

Provide construction support, start-up and commissioning for electrical substations, power distribution systems, motors, generators, various process control strategies with PLC and DCS-based systems, wired and wireless telemetry systems. Hands on program/configure/setup/ testing of equipment including breakers, protection relays, power monitors, VFDs, etc. Hands on experience with instrumentation setups and calibrations and configuring control system. Review and approve submittals and RFIs. Make corrections to drawings and as-build drawings for final acceptance and record. Working knowledge of the following power and control equipment including ABB, Allen Bradley, Basler, Cutler Hammer, Electro Industries, Emerson, GE, Rosemount, Schneider Electrical, SEL, Square, etc is desirable.

Technical Support and Troubleshooting

Provide technical and project management assistance to facility maintenance on the preventative maintenance program. Field gathering arc flash study data, run arc flash study analysis, and prepare reports. Maintain the SKM files as necessary to ensure the technical information is up-to-date and comply with the NFPA 70E requirements. Provide troubleshooting support to facility maintenance or leading the troubleshooting effort as issues that arise related to grounding, general power system, power outage, power quality, control, and communications in the wastewater plants and pump stations.

The salary range is $12,275 per month increasing to $12,889, $13,533, $14,210 and $14,920 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Requirements:

1. A bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited electrical engineering curriculum OR a California EIT certificate.

2. Four years of professional electrical engineering experience (subsequent to obtaining the degree).

3. California registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer and a valid California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Candidates must be willing to work overtime as needed. Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the classification including office and field duties.
