Salary: $107,540.88 - $130,713.48 Annually

The City of Vacaville is accepting applications for the position of Chief Plant Operator - Water in the Utilities Department. Currently, one full-time vacancy exists. This recruitment will also serve to establish an eligibility list for vacancies that may occur over the next twelve (12) month period.  

The Chief Plant Operator - Water plans, develops, organizes, supervises, directs, and participates in the operation of the City's water facilities; assists in the review and implementation of water treatment facilities capital projects; and develops, directs, and administers procedures for ensuring regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate  will:

  • Understand the operation and maintenance of potable water production wells, booster stations, storage facilities, emergency power systems, and treatment facilities. 
  • Be able to maintain clear and concise records and prepare, comprehend and evaluate a variety of reports and studies and provide recommendations and assess alternatives.
  • Troubleshoot complex operational and maintenance problems.
  • Perform a variety of operational tests and calculations and adjust operating equipment and methods to ensure compliance with local, State and Federal requirements.
  • Create and maintain a respectful and collaborative working environment.

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. College-level course work in water resources and water operations, management and supervision, or related fields is desired.
Experience: Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water treatment plant facilities and related systems, including at least two (2) years in a lead capacity.

A valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is a condition of initial and continued employment.
A valid California Drinking Water Operator Certification Program T4 Water Treatment Operator certification is a condition of initial and continued employment.
