WORK HOURS:  MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 6:30AM TO 3:00PM
This position requires an individual to perform duties supporting the Water/Wastewater Lines Divisions.  An individual in this class performs a range of duties, working in assigned areas based upon division needs.
 

Major Duties

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Maintains familiarity with the location, size, and types of utilities within the City's service area.
  • Maintains a familiarity with City and Departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of industry standard practices and materials.
  • Reviews the location, material, and size of lines in work areas and provides information to supervisors regarding differences with record plans and drawings.
  • Documents and reports non-compliance; maintains records.
  • Maintains a familiarity with applicable safety practices and provides input regarding the safe execution of work.
  • Constructs and installs water and sewer lines; installs water meters and service connections; installs sewer taps.
  • Operates equipment, including but not limited to, a backhoe, roller, pumps, skid steer, truck cranes, and hand tools.
  • Sets up and operates T.V. and grouting equipment, including computers and recording devices.
  • Operates the inflow and infiltration system.
  • Maintains a cleaning program of the City sewer systems.
  • Inspects grease traps.
  • Operates, inspects, repairs, and tests valves and hydrants; maintains records of hydrant meters leased to contractors.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by four (4) years of experience in water treatment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
 
Must possess or obtain within 18 months of employment a Water Distribution Level III Certification and a Wastewater Collection Certificate: Class C.  Once the certificates are obtained they shall be maintained.
 
Backflow Tester and Backflow Repair certification is preferred.
 
Maintenance of a current/valid State of Florida Driver License which meets requirements outlined in the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations Manual as well as any requirements by the City's insurance carrier (at no additional cost, or risk), and determined by the City to be an acceptable driving record history.

Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "A" Restricted with tanker endorsements within 150 days of employment.
 
Ability to be on Standby 24 hours a day as required to perform work and in addition to regular working hours.
 
Grade assignments will be made on the following point system:
 
Line Tech I (Grade 411) – 0 to 9 points
Line Tech II (Grade 412) – 10 to 19 points
Line Tech III (Grade 413) – 19 to 29 points
Line Tech IV (Grade 414) – 30 or more points

Points applied as follows:
 
Experience: 0 to 2 years = 0 points, >2 Yrs to 5 Yrs = 5 Pts, >5 Yrs to 10 Yrs = 9 Pts, >10 Yrs = 15 Pts
Supervisory Experience: 1 to 3 Yrs = 3 points, >3 Yrs to 5 Yrs = 5 Pts, >5 Yrs = 7 Pts
Water Distribution Certificate: Level III = 10 Pts, Level II = 15 Pts, Level I = 20 Pts
Wastewater Collection Certificate: Class C = 10 Pts, Class B = 15 Pts, Class A = 20 Pts
Backflow Tester: 15 Pts (Must have Water Level III to receive Pts)
Backflow Repair: 15 Pts (Must have Water Level III to receive Pts)
