  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in engineering.

  • Texas: Engineer – In Training Certification.



Engineer A
Education and/or Equivalent Experience: 

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.



Engineer B
Education and/or Equivalent Experience: 

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus six (6) years of experience in engineering acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

Engineer C

Position Overview:

  • Austin Water’s Mobility Team currently has an opening for an engineer to sponsor Capital Improvement Program (CIP) water and wastewater pipeline projects. These projects involve utility relocations and conflict mitigation associated with local and regional roadway and highway, and drainage improvements. The Mobility Team’s portfolio includes collaborating with voter approved 2020 Project Connect initiative, which includes Light Rail and MetroRapid improvements, and 2016 Transportation Bond related Corridor Program with 9 major transportation corridors. This role coordinates with multiple teams and divisions within Austin Water and with other City departments and external stakeholders throughout the planning, design, bid and construction phases for successful project completion. This is an exciting opportunity to work on some unique and most complex pipeline relocation projects in the City of Austin.

  • Grad Engineer A: $33.05 – $42.14
  • Grad Engineer B: $35.04 – $44.67
  • Engineer A: $38.97 – $50.67
  • Engineer B: $41.70 – $54.21
  • Engineer C: $44.62 – $58.01

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Experience in capital improvement project planning and management including working successfully with different city departments and governmental agencies in underground water and wastewater pipeline relocation design and construction involving major roadway and drainage improvements.
  • Experience regularly interacting with different levels of personnel throughout an organization and adapting communication styles to meet the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to multitask, exhibit strong organizational skills, and have experience in planning, organizing, and collaborating effectively with both internal and external stakeholders within an organization to meet business objectives.
  • Experience in communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in project management and sponsorship, overseeing multiple projects at a time related to design, construction and rehabilitation of water and wastewater pipelines.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
