Position Description:

Under direction of the Chief, Electrical Inspection Section, the incumbent performs difficult engineering tasks on matters relating to electrical and electromechanical systems on the State Water Project (SWP) hydroelectric generating and pumping plants. Incumbent performs construction inspection, leads the execution of the installation, testing, integration, startup, and energization of electrical and electromechanical equipment for hydroelectric power generating and pumping plants. Performs difficult or complex engineering tasks in preparing design drawings and specifications, preparing cost estimates, providing contract administration, directing investigations of problems and failures related to electrical and electromechanical systems and equipment on the SWP. Support and participate in all phases of the Cradle to Grave strategies including planning, design, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, and maintenance to enhance organizational programs, and increase expertise, safety and sustainability.

We are seeking an individual that can work cooperatively with others; has excellent written and verbal communication skills; can maintain regular, consistent, predictable attendance; can identify and prioritize work; can execute tasks independently with minimal supervision; can exercise good judgment; is available for work outside normal business hours, including overnight travel extending for several days; and has the ability to proficiently operate personal computers and Microsoft Office Suite. You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement located on the job posting in CalCareers.

Requirements for Admittance to the Exam:

Associate Hydroelectrical Power Utility Engineer

Graduation from college with major work in electrical, electronic, mechanical, or civil engineering. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)

Either I

Two years of engineering experience in the electric utilities field and/or in the operation and maintenance of pumping and generating equipment at the Electrical Engineer, Range B, or Mechanical Engineer, Range B, level in California state service.

Or II

Three years of engineering experience in the electric utilities field and/or in the operation and maintenance of pumping and generating equipment, at least two years of which shall have been comparable in responsibility to that of an Electrical Engineer, Range B, or Mechanical Engineer, Range B, in California state service.
