Job Summary: This is complex, technical work developing, reviewing and correcting sampling methods and procedures or reviewing and correcting raw hydro-meteorological data to ensure reliability and validity of the data, developing and instructing hydrologic staff in sample collection techniques to ensure the reliability of the data collected and testing and calibrating radio/cellular telemetry hydrologic data collection instrumentation.

Job duties include:


  • Assign final quality codes to data and archive final data in the Hydstra database. Analyze, validate, and correct hydro-meteorological data collected by the Water Resource Information (WRI); compute evaporation/transpiration and other hydro-meteorological parameters from indirect measurements.


  • Develop and implement methods for performing quality checks on all data collected by the WRI; protect data from revision after quality checking; provide quality codes with all disseminated data; and publish periodic reports to summarize data availability and quality.


  • Develop and implement improved quality assurance methods and procedures for hydro-meteorological data collection, validation, processing, reporting, and dissemination; develop and implement standard operating procedures for field data collection; publish, update, and ensure compliance with relevant quality assurance standards; and evaluate data collection sensors and processes to ensure quality performance.


  • Review data validated and processed by WRI staff prior to archiving and distribution.


  • Coordinate hydro-meteorological data requirements with project managers and other WRI components; review requests, proposed collection methods and sensors, and processing needs to ensure that requirements are met.


  • Review, validate and adjust data obtained from other agencies and other District functional units for storage in District databases; review and implement improved work processes for the section; and coordinate and cooperate with other sections.


  • Develop and present Water Resource Information’s quality assurance training.

Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in hydrology, a natural science, or engineering and four years professional experience in hydrologic-meteorologic data quality assurance or water quality assurance.

Professional experience in hydrologic or water quality data quality assurance can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Additional Details:

Salary Range: $45,801.60 - $61,068.80 Annually

Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience
