Waco, known as “The Heart of Texas” for its upbeat and friendly hospitality, is situated on the celebrated Brazos River and midway between Dallas and Austin on Interstate 35. With a population of almost 140,000, it is the largest city in Central Texas and the 25th largest city in the state. The Waco Metropolitan Statistical Area, consisting of McLennan and Falls Counties, has an estimated population of 280,428.

The Water Utilities Services Department is committed to the protection of public health and the quality management of water and wastewater services. Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Utilities, the Senior Development Engineer- Water Utilities develops, designs, reviews, and executes engineering projects for the organization, managing them from initial assignment to completion according to project schedules, budgets, state and federal regulations, and City standards.

The City of Waco is seeking an approachable and hands-on servant-leader with the skills to take on the water and wastewater infrastructure of one of Texas’ Top-25 largest cities. Candidates should be knowledgeable in the fundamentals of civil engineering; the principles of design, construction, and maintenance of public works projects; and government project management practices, including evaluating construction plans and contracts for compliance with local, state, and federal law.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university and four years of experience in engineering or project management, including two as a licensed engineer. The selected candidate will be required to maintain their license as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas as well as a valid Texas driver’s license throughout their tenure. Any combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the candidate with the required knowledge and skills for this position may be considered.

The City of Waco is offering a competitive salary starting at $115,000 for this position plus hiring incentive and moving allowance commensurate with qualifications and experience.
