The City of Aurora seeks someone with strong interpersonal and managerial skills to serve as the new Director of Operations for Aurora Water. The ideal candidate will be skilled in the use of Windows-based programs, customer service, customer relations, crisis communications management, health and safety best practices, public speaking, written communications, media relations, and in checking information for accuracy and completeness and correcting errors. They will be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and other City departments, citizens, and elected officials, as well as handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy and be able to negotiate with other governmental entities. The next Director will be able to establish and fulfill goals and objectives; direct and effectively supervise a large workforce, and establish and administer budgets and capital improvement programs in a safe and efficient manner based on organizational values of integrity, professionalism, respect, and customer service.

A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, management, business administration, or a directly related field, is required. The incoming Director of Water Operations should have at least eight years of progressively responsible, directly related experience in a full-service water utility with at least five years of division-level managerial experience. Preference will be given to candidates with 12 or more years of progressively responsible, directly related experience in a full-service water utility. Certifications as a Professional Engineer and/or Level IV certification in Distribution and/or Treatment, and/or Wastewater Collection is not required but are strongly preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
