Salary: $4,855-$5,901 Monthly
Under general supervision of the Water Operations Supervisor, performs unskilled work in meter reading and in the maintenance and repair of valves, mains, meters and the installation of water service lines and meters, or in the maintenance and operation of water storage facilities, handles customer service complaints, reads meters; and performs related work as required.
This is the entry-level classification. Under direct supervision incumbents perform the simple more routine tasks while learning to perform the more difficult work.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Breaks out old concrete work such as curbs, sidewalks, and gutters; installs, couples, tests, and covers water lines; installs, maintains, and repairs water system mains, pipes, and facilities; shuts off and turns on water services when required; cleans and maintains basic tools used on the job; reads, inspects, maintains, and repairs water and related utility metering devices; performs a variety of skilled, unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water lines, buildings, and other facilities; may operate equipment such as dump trucks, forklifts and backhoe. Read water meters ten days a month.
Basic methods, tools, material and equipment used in maintenance and construction work, operation of power equipment, including trucks, loaders, and related equipment; safe work practices.
Operate light and moderately heavy power equipment; perform heavy manual labor; use the hand and light power tools required in general grounds and maintenance work; understand and carry out oral and written directions; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and any combination of education and/or experience would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities.
Possession of an appropriate and valid California Driver's License and a Grade D1 Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by California Department of Public Health
Typical Physical Duties:
Operate a District vehicle in daily field operations.
Must be able to carry, push, pull and lift equipment and parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
Stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls and climbs during daily work routine.
Required to use hands and fingers to grasp handle, feel or operate objects, hold tools or controls and reach
with hands and arms.
Stands and walks for extended time periods.
Work involves exposure to chemicals.
Hearing and vision within normal ranges.
This is a safety sensitive position.
