Hiring Range: $17.27 - $22.07 per hour, DOE
Salary Range: $17.27 - $25.90 per hour, DOE
Performs technical work in the maintenance and repairs of the mechanical systems of a wastewater treatment plant, building, facilities and City owned lift stations. The incumbent must perform work safely, efficiently, and accurately, occasionally under adverse conditions. Expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment both individually, and as part of a team, in assisting with maintenance, operations, projects and technical related activities. Communicates and cooperates with City personnel, public, vendors and contractors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Troubleshoots and performs diagnostics of mechanical, electrical, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and lift station systems for repair, replacement, and new installment of equipment and structures;
Checks, lubricates, maintains and makes repairs and adjustments on pumps, mechanical equipment, and other related equipment within the treatment plant and at lift stations;
Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and semi-annual maintenance related activities as required;
Monitors equipment performance and has the ability to recognize equipment failure, provide corrective action, and initiate follow up measures;
Adjusts and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFD); and able to correspond with outside vendors for information or assistance.
Performs some plumbing and carpentry tasks, in addition to regular work, and other related work as may be required for proper plant operation;
Occasionally performs minor maintenance on pickups, skid steer, boom lift, telehandler, and other heavy equipment;
Performs fabrication with welding involving use of steel, stainless steel and aluminum;
Maintains and repairs chemical feed equipment;
Maintains and repairs pumps and motors, as well as boilers and centrifuge.
Maintains and repairs digester gas system components;
Maintains spare parts and equipment inventory;
Handles, maintains, and stores oils, solvents and other shop chemicals; reads and follows Safety Data Sheets (SDS);
Utilizes standard shop tools and machines (such as parts washer, plasma cutter, etc.);
Provides on call assistance for emergencies and acts effectively in emergency situations;
Responsible to keep neat, timely and accurate records and computer entries for asset management system, understand and follow written and verbal instructions, regulations and policies;
Reads and interprets work orders, maintenance manuals, and other related literature;
Enters data on computer using database software and creates and completes work orders;
Maintains maintenance system logs and keeps records;
Reads equipment and maintenance manuals and can locate needed equipment maintenance information;
Performs standard safety practices and can implement Lock out Tag out, confined space entry, and safe atmosphere testing procedure;
Performs general cleaning / maintenance tasks necessary to keep facilities, vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition; reports faulty equipment;
Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers;
Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
High school diploma or equivalent;
Three (3) years maintenance and repair of equipment, facilities or the performance of related work; or any combination of experience and education that provides the skills and abilities necessary to perform all the duties listed.
Experience with electrical and mechanical equipment with work experience in a variety of work elements including equipment repair, servicing and lubrication and troubleshooting;
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the operation, repair, and servicing requirements of pumps, motors, valves, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and control equipment commonly found in wastewater treatment and collection systems;
Competent in the maintenance of pumps, motors, and generators;
Competent in the use of database software;
Must be able to work unsupervised in the operation and care of machinery and mechanical devices, electrical equipment, buildings, and grounds;
Ability to work effectively with hand and power tools, ability to recognize and diagnose equipment failures, ability to act in an emergency;
Ability to understand and perform work in manners that meet NPDES permit compliance requirements;
Must be able to work all shifts, call outs, and holidays;
Must be able to read, write, and speak English;
Ability to maintain records and prepare activity reports;
Working knowledge of asset management programs and work order systems;
Must display an attitude of cooperation and the ability to work well with others;
Ability to work as a team player;
Ability to communicate with management, supervisors and co-workers with respect in a pleasant, courteous manner;
Integrity, in the performance of assigned tasks;
Working knowledge of safety regulations, policies, and practices;
Working knowledge of safe rigging practices;
Proficient in the use of general shop tools, pickup truck, forklift, acetylene, and arc welder, snowplow, air compressor, front-end loader, drill press, hydraulic press, pipe tap and die, hydro- cleaner, sand blaster, and spray paint gun;
Ability to use power tools for shop maintenance, carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding, electrical and cement finishing work;
Knowledge of emergency response procedures and disaster response and have ability follow and execute emergency assistance when called upon.
Licensing and Certification:
Must hold a valid State of Idaho driver’s license with a good driving record;
Must have or be able to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Operator Class 1 license within 12 months of employment;
Must be able to attend and complete all required safety training requirements and certifications including but not limited to: confined space entry, CPR/AED, ICS, fall protection, forklift.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Job requires extensive walking, bending, and other physical movements;
Routinely requires lifting and moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves more than 100 pounds;
Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in extreme outside weather conditions;
Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration;
Requires driving a motorized vehicle or maintenance equipment;
Occasionally is exposed to risk of electrical shock;
Employees work in/at heights, confined spaces and are exposed to mechanical, electrical hazards;
Employees work on or around walkways of expanded metal, uneven concrete, and rocky areas which can become slippery and icy; on lift equipment and step ladders in confined areas; in and around moving mechanical parts;
Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids, and chemicals;
Additional environmental conditions include: exposure to sewage, methane, hydrogen sulfide and other possible toxic gases and hazardous substances.
Local travel to City sites is required, using a City vehicle;
Regional travel is required on occasion for training.
