About the Position:

Under varying degrees of supervision, depending on level within the Series, the Collection and
Distribution System Operator is expected to learn, perform and advance in their duties within
the District. Those duties include the repair and maintenance of the District’s water distribution
and wastewater collection/pumping systems. They are also expected to assist members of
the other work groups and departments, as needed.

The ideal candidate must be a team player, self-motivated, strong work ethic, physically able to perform required job duties, enjoy working with the public and co-workers, while striving for
continuous improvement, advancement, and exceptional job performance. Experience within
the water and wastewater industry is also desirable.

Minimum Qualifications for Each Position Within the Series:
Collection and Distribution System Operator I: Class A driver’s license within 12 months of hire; SWRCB Water Distribution Grade 1 certification within 12 months of hire
Collection and Distribution System Operator II: Class A driver’s license; SWRCB Water Distribution Grade 2
Collection and Distribution System Operator III: Class A driver’s license; SWRCB Water Distribution Grade 3

CWEA Wastewater Collection System Maintenance: Certifications are highly desirable and will be encouraged after hire

Basic Entry-Level Requirements:
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid and current California Class C driver’s license
• Pass background check, drug test, and physical examination
• Willing to work weekends and unusual hours
• Good writing and verbal communication skills
• Ability to accurately document work performed

Highly Desirable Abilities and Experience in Performing:
• Mechanical repair of applicable systems
• Locating and fixing water service and main leaks
• Inspecting sewer lines using CCTV
• Cleaning wet wells at lift stations
• Resolving sewer odor issues
• Welding and fabrication
• Landscape maintenance
• Operating water distribution systems
• Operating wastewater collection systems
• Underground construction
• Electrical / electronic controls diagnosis and repair
• Plumbing
• Equipment operation
• Paving
• Pouring / finish concrete
