Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
For Austin Energy:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience in a field related to electric utility line or power plant construction and maintenance.
    OR
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in construction or maintenance activities, including three (3) years of which were in the planning, coordination, and scheduling of utility construction projects.

For Austin Water:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus 3 years of experience in coordination and scheduling of utility infrastructure projects.
  • Education may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.

Position Overview:

Austin Water Mobility Team is seeking a Scheduler Analyst for the Pipeline Capital Improvement Project Division to provide support and oversight on various mobility (transportation/transit) related Austin Water infrastructure relocation projects. This position will perform a combination of office and field tasks and will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including coordinating and communicating design, plan review, construction, operations and maintenance activities for Austin Water’s water distribution and wastewater collections systems. This position will be required to create reports and make regular presentations to both internal and external stakeholders, including management teams. The successful candidate will help evaluate some of Austin Water’s most challenging issues associated with a fast-growing city.

Travel:
If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Pay Range: $35.04 – $44.67 per hour

Hours: Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility. (Weekends when necessary)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a lead capacity, including strong organizational skills, scheduling of work assignments, providing training and guidance to others, and coordinating efforts of multi-discipline project teams
  • Knowledge of and experience with performing operations and maintenance duties on municipal distribution systems and collection systems similar in complexity to Austin Water’s.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with immediate supervisor and team, project engineers, City of Austin inspectors, contractors, and O&M staff
  • Experience in field construction of water distribution system and wastewater collection system facilities, including interpretation of construction drawings and contract documents, and addressing RFIs (request for information), field changes, and Change Orders.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint for presentations and reports to both internal and external stakeholders including management teams
  • General knowledge of Austin Water’s design, construction, and product standards that relate to all Austin Water infrastructure installed and maintained in City of Austin right-of-way
  • Experience with CIP plan review
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours when necessary
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities - 

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  1. Coordinates and schedules field construction and maintenance projects. Coordinates and reviews construction- or engineering-related contracts and contract documents.
  2. Measures work performances against engineering work standards to develop, maintain, and improve City of Austin design and construction standards.
  3. Tracks status of projects, and reports to management.
  4. Plans projects by determining crew size and composition, work hour requirements, and equipment requirements.
  5. Prepares work order schedules, control records, and post schedules.
  6. Communicates project and/or program information to internal and external customers.
  7. Ensures compliance with City and other regulatory agency requirements and policies.
  8. Meets with project managers, engineers, and contractors to discuss designs.

  • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluations, training, and guidance to others.
