If you are an experienced, Licensed Professional Engineer, the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) has an exciting opportunity for you as the Manager of Engineering!
Reporting to the Executive Manager of Engineering, incumbent will manage the activities and staff responsible for providing design, administration, and construction management services for water, wastewater, and energy projects that implement the Agency's capital improvement program. The department integrates the latest and most cost effective technologies into the IEUA service area. Our team of talented engineers are encouraged to think out of the box to find solutions to problems with a focus on sustainability and renewable energy. Our team implemented the first use of a Tesla battery storage at each of our treatment plants. We are continuing to research and apply more forward-thinking ideas to our existing waste water treatment system. A total of 34 personnel (26 full time equivalent and 8 limited term positions) contributes to the success of the department. The department's adopted budget for FY 2019-20 is $102.3 million (82% of which is for capital projects). The Ten-Year Capital Improvement Program (CIP) is $921 million, of which $739 million are directly supervised by the department.
Under general direction, plans, organizes, integrates and directs the work of the Engineering Department; directs and implements comprehensive strategies and programs for the engineering planning/design, construction management and construction inspection of the Agency's water treatment and transmission systems; plans, organizes and directs the activities and staff, contractors and engineering consultants engaged in the engineering design and construction of the Agency's capital projects; provides expert professional assistance and guidance to management on engineering design and construction; and performs related duties as assigned.
The Manager of Engineering is responsible for managing, directing and integrating a wide variety of functions, programs and staff engaged in engineering design, construction management and construction inspection. Work is broad in scope and requires seasoned judgment and a high degree of initiative, independence and accountability.
An employee in this class reports to the Executive Manager of Engineering/AGM and directs the work of the Deputy Manager of Engineering and professional and technical staff in the department.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in civil, mechanical, electrical engineering or another engineering discipline acceptable to the Agency, and at least ten years of progressively responsible experience in engineering and construction project management, at least five of which were at a manager or supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A master's degree and experience in a wastewater/water utility are preferred.
LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency's vehicle insurance program.
Registration by the State of California as a Professional Engineer is required.
