The City of Sacramento, Department of Utilities is seeking to fill the position of Water Quality Laboratory Technician. Technicians collect and document water samples and perform routine physical, chemical and bacteriological analysis of water on laboratory equipment and clean and sterilize laboratory utensils and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collect and document water samples of water from filtration plants, industrial and distribution systems locations, reservoirs, and rivers.
Perform routine physical, chemical and bacteriological analysis of samples with the appropriate documentation.
Prepare bacteriological media and chemical solutions.
Make routine bacteriological examination of samples.
Assist in the preparation of laboratory equipment and supplies for the analysis of water.
Assist in cleaning and maintaining various laboratory devices, equipment, and surroundings.
Draft correspondence and reports, and perform other clerical duties related to work activities.
Provide exceptional customer service to those contacted in the course of work.
Basic principles, practices, and techniques of organic and inorganic chemistry, and microbiology.
Basic laboratory protocols and safety.
Education and Experience
Experience: One year of experience performing routine laboratory tests in a chemical, bacteriological or public health laboratory.
Education: An Associate Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or closely related field; or twenty-one units or more of major (upper division) course work in chemistry, bacteriology or biology.
