Salary: $93,824.38 - $109,192.73 Annually
Supervises, coordinates and manages a variety of engineering and planning activities and personnel to identify, evaluate, manage and rehabilitate various facilities and systems. Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff. Provides supervision and coordination of technical personnel, projects and assignments, or may supervise multiple contracts and assignments of technical professionals in advanced hydraulic modeling for developing a range of planning for City's water and wastewater infrastructure. Provides technical analysis and information to develop solutions using advanced hydraulic modeling and state-of-the-art tools to develop a range of planning documents for City's wastewater and drinking water systems.
Defines objectives, evaluates City's wastewater and drinking water systems and makes recommendations for operational enhancement and develop long-range plans. Prepares and reviews contract addendums, reports, plans, projects and design standards. Establishes goals, develops and evaluates performance of personnel and/ assignments of technical professionals in advanced hydraulic modeling for developing a range of planning for City's water and wastewater infrastructure. Provides technical guidance and training to technical professionals in advanced hydraulic modeling and its applications for City's water and wastewater infrastructure planning. Negotiates contracts, evaluates bid documents and assists in selecting bid awards.
Conducts on-site project inspections and investigations. Supports to responses to inquiries by departments, consultants, agencies and the general public. Attends meetings and conference.
There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Management position at the Tier I Level.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers with satisfactory standing.
Requires graduation from an engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board and passage of the eight-hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) years of active practice in engineering work after graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering, with two of the years as a licensed Professional Engineer are required.
Substitution: A Master's degree in Engineering may be substituted for up to two years of the above experience requirement.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. A specific branch of engineering (such as civil, mechanical, structural, etc.) may be required. A valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
Preference will be given the applicant with hydraulic modeling experience.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
