Currently recruiting for ALL Operator Levels A, B or C.
Mechanical and manual work of more than ordinary difficulty and responsibility in operating and maintaining a wastewater treatment plant, sludge handling facilities, equipment, and grounds on an assigned shift.
Work is performed under general supervision of a Lead Operator in accordance with established operating procedures. After employee becomes familiar with operating procedures, performs duties with some independence. Completion of specialized training and on-the-job experience, plus attainment of appropriate certification will lead to advancement to Wastewater Plant Operator "B" and then Operator "A".
PLEASE NOTE: Wastewater Treatment Plant Facilities are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.During the training period, employees will be rotated through the various shifts. In case of any type of an emergency, an employee in this classification are considered essential personnel and would need to be available to work during such emergencies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Monitors meters, dials, and gauges and records data on reports or into computer as required. Cleans, paints, and performs other service to pumps, motors, tanks, and other plant equipment as necessary. Assists plant mechanic with equipment maintenance and repairs. Operates pumps, valves, and/or gates to transfer wastewater and/or sludge from one treatment unit to another. May load and unload equipment and chemicals from trucks. Performs custodial duties on plant grounds and buildings. Picks up wastewater and sludge samples for testing. Performs basic wastewater operational control tests and record results. Inspects odor control chemical feed equipment for proper operation. May be reassigned to other shifts or work sites within the Wastewater Treatment Division as required by management. Adjusts plant process within established policy. Operates forklift, pick-up trucks,. May supervise operator trainees on shift. May be required to perform stand-by duty for after-hour responses. May require the use of City provided computer. Performs related tasks as assigned.
High School graduation, High School Equivalency Diploma, or G.E.D. Certificate; supplemented by applicable courses in wastewater treatment technology. Applicants must possess and maintain an appropriate Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license, either "C", "B", or "A", issued by the State of Florida. Experience and training at the prescribed level as defined under current applicable laws and regulations. Must also possess a valid State of Florida Driver's License.
