The Water and Wastewater Operations team at Sonoma Water is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative, and dependable Water and Wastewater Coordinator/Chief Plant Operator with significant experience in the water and wastewater utility field. The most qualified candidates for this position will be innovative, life-long learners with an interest in developing themselves and their employees. Under general direction, this position plans and schedules work priorities and directs and evaluates the work of employees engaged in the operation, laboratory testing, maintenance, and repair of  water and wastewater treatment plants, water production facilities, water transmission facilities, and related systems. Additionally, this position is responsible for:

  • Co-managing dual-certified water and wastewater operations staff and interns
  • Preparing reports to Regional Water Quality Control Boards, Environmental Protection Agency, Division of Drinking Water, and other agencies as needed
  • Discussing administrative and engineering master plans and operational priorities with engineering staff
  • Planning, scheduling, and implementing the water reuse program with contracted users, and seeking out potential recycled water users
  • Maintaining minimum stream flow requirements
  • Preparing and monitoring operational budgets
  • Investigating complaints and inquiries from the public

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant experience with Water and Wastewater operations
  • Experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
  • Supervisory experience, including the ability to schedule and coordinate staff work 
  • Collaborative skills, dependability, and enthusiasm
  • Innovative ideas and the desire to learn
  • Strong mentoring and teaching skills
