The California State Water Project (SWP), a water storage and delivery system of reservoirs, aqueducts, power plants and pumping plants that includes 36 storage facilities, 21 pumping plants, five hydroelectric power plants, four pumping-generating plants, and approximately 705 miles of canals, tunnels, and pipelines, is seeking an exceptionally talented and experienced Engineer to apply and further develop their technical design knowledge and broaden their project management and leadership skills.
The Senior HEPU Engineer will perform a variety of engineering assignments related to maintenance, design and operation of electrical power equipment including but not limited to electrical motors, generators, control systems, circuit breakers, power transformers and transmission lines.
This position requires that the incumbent is proficient in design and drafting utilizing AutoCAD, PSLF, Paladin, and MATLAB; strong communication skills, both written and verbal; and time management. On a day-to-day basis, handle multiple projects simultaneously and independently, including prioritizing, organizing, and planning effectively to meet all deadlines. Must possess strong problem solving and decision-making skills; be a collaborative and supportive team player who can also effectively work independently; and demonstrate initiative and be a self-starter, with strong project management skills and a proactive approach to addressing issues and finding creative solutions.
Must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of work experience in electrical engineering specific to design theory and concepts, construction, and power generation, distribution and transmission systems design. Must possess a valid California Driver's License, as travel throughout the Field Division will be required. This also includes travel and overnight stays in various locations throughout the State of California. Must be willing to work outside of normal business hours. Employee is required to successfully complete all safety training related to the functions of the job.
This position has frequent access to areas designated as containing critical cyber assets in accordance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability standards and therefore a satisfactory criminal background check is required prior to appointment and at least every 7 years thereafter.
This position is physically located in Castaic, California.

All applicants must meet the education and/or experience requirements as stated on this exam bulletin to be accepted into the examination. Part-time or full-time jobs, regardless of whether paid or volunteer positions, and inside or outside California state service will count toward experience.
Graduation from college with major work in electrical, electronic, mechanical, or civil engineering. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.) AND
Two years of experience performing the duties of an Associate Hydroelectric Power Utility Engineer in California state service.
Five years of progressively responsible engineering experience in the electric utilities field and/or in the operation and maintenance of pumping and generating equipment, at least two years of which shall have been comparable in responsibility to that of an Associate Hydroelectric Power Utility Engineer.
