East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified professionals to apply for the position of Associate Civil Engineer. The opening is in EBMUD’s Water and Natural Resources Department in the Water Supply Improvements Division’s Office of Water Recycling, which is focused on planning and implementation of water recycling projects. Reporting to a Senior Engineer, the Associate Civil Engineer is the registered professional engineer level position on the EBMUD civil engineering career ladder.

The Office of Water Recycling handles significant work to support capital projects and ongoing operations including planning and environmental analysis of recycled water facilities (treatment, pump station, storage, pipeline distribution, fill stations), program management during design and construction of recycled water facilities, recycled water user site retrofits, recycled water expansion and water quality studies, negotiation of recycled water agreements, application of state and federal grants and loans, recycled water customer training, permitting, and support, and project management.
EBMUD is seeking a motivated professional with experience in water and wastewater-related fields, preferably in recycled water.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in project planning and management; oral and written communication skills; experience with planning and siting of project facilities, environmental documents, and reports; engineering analyses of new and existing projects; and understanding of recycled water regulations, treatment and water quality.
The salary range is $10,150 per month increasing to $10,657, $11,190, $11,750 and $12,338 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Any combination of education and experience that has led to the acquisition of the knowledge and abilities indicated above. Typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge and abilities is a combination of training and experience equivalent to:
- A bachelor’s degree in an ABET-accredited civil (or closely related) engineering curriculum OR a California EIT Certificate;
- Four years of professional civil and/or geotechnical engineering experience (subsequent to obtaining the degree), which is equivalent to two years of experience at the level of EBMUD’s Assistant Engineer level; AND
- California registration as a Professional Civil Engineer.
